A Beautiful Hand Embroidered Oak Leaf
1 Comment Published September 29th, 2005 in Hand Embroidery Designs, Amazing Embroidery Designs
One of my best friends just presented me with this beautiful hand embroidered oak leaf. Simply a marvelous job! Here is the description of the design as reproduced from the place she got it from -
A variety of yarns were used including commercially dyed stranded cottons, hand dyed stranded cottons and rayon threads.”
What really amazed me was the way in which the leaf seems to emerge from the background and the clarity of the veins of the leaf design, which were a cut above the rest.

The Fascinating Shrine Embroidery Designs

Shrine embroidery designs have really fascinated me. Unlike other embroidery designs, these designs have a charm of their own especially in the sombre portrayal of the symmetrical patterns entrenched on their surface. I have seen quite a few shrine embroidery designs, but the one that really caught my eye is the one next to this post. Not really because of its beauty, but because of its history. These skirts are made of handwoven hemp in indigo color with batik design, applique embroidery and has been used by Hmong tribe women in Thailand, Laos and Burma. You can view these and others at Shrine embroidery design skirts.
The Complex Firefighter Embroidery Designs

I was amazed at the complexity of embroidering a firefighter design. The difficulty encountered in fighting an ongoing fire pales in comparison to creating a firefighter embroidery design. A bit of exaggeration only to drive home the point! Compared to truck embroidery designs, these designs are more intricate and require good sewing skills to do it perfectly. In the adjoining design, the ladder part needs utmost attention. Generally all these designs are done using machine embroidery using formats like ART, CND, CSD, DST, EMB, EXP, HUS, JEF, PCM, PES, SEW, VIP or XXX.

The Best Flip Flop Embroidery Designs I Have Ever Seen

I just came across a good article on flip flop embroidery designs at Artistic Thread Works - You can search for “flip flop” through the search function - scroll down to find the Florida Sole Beach Bag information. There was a contest run called the Florida Sole Beach Bag Contest where the best flip flop embroidery designs came up for recognition. Genia’s designs on her beach bag is outstanding. Genia’s story on how she sewed the embroidery designs on the beach bag is really interesting.
Here is an extract of her email to Larry “The outline of Florida I did myself, along with the lettering using Designer’s Gallery LetterWorks. The bag itself gave me the excuse (like I really needed one) to go fabric hunting. So we, my husband, Mark and Mildred, his Mom, loaded up in the truck and headed out to Pensacola to see what we could find. Crestview is not the biggest town to fabric shop in. With most, all the flip flops were applique embroidery designs and I was on a mission. I managed to get out of town with some really good bargains, came home and sat down and started sewing. I like really bright and unusual color contrast and came up with the combinations that I did. The ones with the fringe flowers is Phyllis’ design. Those are my favorites. It’s real easy to do as long as you use a contrasting bobbin thread, so it can be seen and cut after it’s stitched. Once it’s carefully cut, you pull the top thread back through and fluff the threads.”
The information on embroidery machines would come in handy here.
